Maxo Kream Releases ‘Brandon Banks’ Album

Today, Maxo Kream releases his new album Brandon Banks via Big Persona/88 Classic/RCA Records. The album, which is his major label debut under his newly inked deal, includes features from Travis Scott, ScHoolboy Q, A$AP Ferg, KCG Josh and fellow Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion who appears on the previously released track, “She Live.” Click HERE to listen.

The culmination of a journey from struggle to triumph, Brandon Banks brings listeners back into the world of Maxo Kream–a world that contrasts the grim realities of poverty with the luxurious life of a successful rapper. Born Emekwanem Ogugua Biosah Jr., Maxo grew up idolizing his father who spent much of Maxo’s youth in-and-out of prison–in his illegal enterprise, his father used the alias Brandon Banks. The album finds Maxo grappling with his newfound fame–as a budding star, Maxo has no need to return to his previous life, but he is still very attached to friends and family in the street, who he is not quite able to lift out of their circumstances. Also included on the album are skits and adlibs from Maxo’s father himself, empowering words of wisdom to his son.

Though it’s heavily informed by Maxo’s past, as depicted in his previous albums Maxo 187 and Punken, which earned “Best Of 2018” honors from Noisey, The AV Club, FACT Mag, and DJ Booth, and others, Brandon Banks is an album firmly rooted in the present, with appearances from some of the biggest names in rap. The album is led by recent singles, including “Meet Again,” listed by Esquire, Billboard, and Vulture as one of 2019’s best songs so far and boasts a video directed by Shomi Patwary. The album also includes “Still” and “She Live,” featuring fellow Houston emcee Megan Thee Stallion.

In support of the album, Maxo will also embark on his “Brandon Banks” headlining North American fall tour. Kicking off on October 16th in New Orleans, the tour will hit major markets across the US including Atlanta, New York, Chicago and San Francisco before wrapping in El Paso, TX on November 17th. The tour, which was first announced on Wednesday, will feature direct support from Q Da Fool. Tickets are available to purchase now. For more information and to purchase tickets please click HERE.

Explains Maxo Kream: “This album is me telling the story of how I’m just like my dad except he was a scammer and I was a trapper. Despite his flaws, he was a great parent, always made sure the rent was paid, made sure I went to school, taught me right from wrong. I wasn’t raised to be a trapper, it just happened because of my circumstances. My relationship with my dad now is great – I used to be terrified of him growing up but now that’s my n****a. We’re like yin and yang.”

Though it’s heavily informed by Maxo’s past, as depicted in his previous albums Maxo 187 and PunkenBrandon Banks is an album firmly rooted in the present, with appearances from some of the biggest names in rap. Always looking for adventurous sounds, Maxo leveled up to complete his musical vision, enlisting A-Listers like Mike Dean and Murda Beatz, as well as previous collaborators like teej and Ryan ESL. The upcoming album gives a home to recent singles, including the soulful “Meet Again,” listed by EsquireBillboard, and Vulture as one of 2019’s best songs so far, the sinister, ChaseTheMoney-produced Still,” and the sexual and lyrical “She Live,” featuring fellow Houston emcee Megan Thee Stallion, which racked up over 150k Spotify streams since its release last week. Featuring appearances from Travis Scott, and many others, Brandon Banks hits stores on May 31st via RCA Records.

Generating over 30 million streams on Spotify alone, Maxo’s 2018 project Punken earned massive critical acclaim, including “Best Of 2018” honors from Noisey, The AV Club, FACT Mag, and DJ Booth, among others. Flowers, and with production from The Wlderness, Beatboy, Sonny Digital, Ethereal, Honorable C Note, $uicideboy$, Tommy Kruise, Wolfe De Mchls, Teddy Walton, and MexikoDroPunken built upon 2015’s Maxo 187 and 2016’s The Persona Tape with emotional and sonically diverse tracks sitting side-by-side with drug-dealing bangers. Maxo Kream Announces New Deal with Big Persona/88 Classic/RCA Records — Teams with ChaseTheMoney for “Still” Single

Maxo Kream announces the start of a new chapter in his career, signing a deal with Big Persona/88 Classic/ RCA Records. Breaking out in 2015 with the pitch black Maxo 187, Maxo Kream exposed the gritty underside of Houston rap, combining stark lyrical realism with innovative production. With his subsequent projects, 2016’s The Persona Tapeand 2018’s Punken, Maxo amassed a cult following, growing his Spotify monthly listenership to over 1 million and garnering over 22 million plays on “Mars,” his single with Lil Uzi Vert.

Kicking off his RCA tenure with a dark and sinister anthem that suits any era of Maxo’s style, Maxo Kream shares “Still,” his latest single. Produced by St. Louis sound architect ChaseTheMoney, who brings thumping bass and eerie synths, “Still” finds Maxo rhyming in a lockstep flow–though his personal situation has considerably improved, he’s still the same Maxo: “Still sellin’ you-know-what to you-know-who/Law still on my ass, gotta watch my moves.” With a bit of introductory smack talk from Maxo’s father, “Still” also finds the Houston native shouting out his new record label: “Still makin’ deals, just signed me a deal/Signed to RCA, one point five mil.” “Still” is Maxo’s second single of 2019, following “Meet Again,” which has over 2.7 million streams on Spotify. The video, which is out now, was directed by acclaimed director Shomi Patwary (Beyoncé, A$AP Rocky, Pusha T).
