Fresh off signing deal with RCA Records, Maxo Kream links up with fellow Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion for his new track ‘She Live’.
Maxo Kream announces the start of a new chapter in his career, signing a deal with Big Persona/88 Classic/ RCA Records. Breaking out in 2015 with the pitch black Maxo 187, Maxo Kream exposed the gritty underside of Houston rap, combining stark lyrical realism with innovative production. With his subsequent projects, 2016’s The Persona Tapeand 2018’s Punken, Maxo amassed a cult following, growing his Spotify monthly listenership to over 1 million and garnering over 22 million plays on “Mars,” his single with Lil Uzi Vert.
Kicking off his RCA tenure with a dark and sinister anthem that suits any era of Maxo’s style, Maxo Kream shares “Still,” his latest single. Produced by St. Louis sound architect ChaseTheMoney, who brings thumping bass and eerie synths, “Still” finds Maxo rhyming in a lockstep flow–though his personal situation has considerably improved, he’s still the same Maxo: “Still sellin’ you-know-what to you-know-who/Law still on my ass, gotta watch my moves.” With a bit of introductory smack talk from Maxo’s father, “Still” also finds the Houston native shouting out his new record label: “Still makin’ deals, just signed me a deal/Signed to RCA, one point five mil.” “Still” is Maxo’s second single of 2019, following “Meet Again,” which has over 2.7 million streams on Spotify. The video, which is out now, was directed by acclaimed director Shomi Patwary (Beyoncé, A$AP Rocky, Pusha T).

Generating over 30 million streams on Spotify alone, Maxo’s 2018 project Punken earned massive critical acclaim, including “Best Of 2018” honors from Noisey, The AV Club, FACT Mag, and DJ Booth, among others. The project’s most recent single “Roaches,” which boasts a creative music video with over 3.4 million YouTube views, currently enjoys prominent placement in Spotify’s “Off The Strength” and “The Sauce” playlists. Featuring appearances from Trippie Redd, 03 Greedo, and D. Flowers, and with production from The Wlderness, Beatboy, Sonny Digital, Ethereal, Honorable C Note, $uicideboy$, Tommy Kruise, Wolfe De Mchls, Teddy Walton, and MexikoDro, Punken built upon 2015’s Maxo 187 and 2016’s The Persona Tape with emotionally and sonically diverse tracks sitting side-by-side with insane drug-dealing bangers. Expect a similar creative and commercial leap from Maxo’s next project, hitting stores this Spring.

Houston rapper T2 Ghetto Hippie releases his new EP, Double Cups & Taco Trucks, today, July 11th, 2017. The 7-track project features guest appearances from Dizzy Wright and Maxo Kream with production from Trakksounds (Bun B, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky) and Chris Rockaway (UGK, Tech N9ne, Trae Tha Truth). Listen to Double Cups & Taco Trucks here.
“Finding good vibes in bad situations. Smiling through the darkness. This project isn’t just about celebrating cough syrup,” T2 told Mass Appeal, “but more emphasizing what it’s like in my neighborhood, and portraying how it feels to play the game of life with the hand we were dealt.”
T2’s name has been growing outside of Texas with the EP’s title-track, “Double Cups & Taco Trucks,” personally chosen by renowned music critic, Robin Hilton, to be featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered for the podcast’s special SXSW 2017 preview. The video for “Double Cups & Taco Trucks” followed shortly and it was praised by Earmilk as one of their “favorite videos of 2017.” The visual paid homage to Houston culture like much of T2’s music while also “challenging the viewer to look beyond the basics.” (Milk) T2 continued delivering the good vibes with “a summer-perfect visual,” (HotNewHipHop) for album standout, “Daze,” and last weekend his single, “B.L.C.” (feat. Maxo Kream) premiered on episode 103 of Noisey Radio on Beats 1.
A homegrown artist with a deep understanding of the south’s storied place in hip-hop, T2 draws inspiration from the artists and soundscapes that have defined the Houston sound. His single “Hustletown,” featuring Southern rap icon Z-Ro, debuted on 97.9 The Box with legendary DJ Michael “5000” Watts, and his previous Trakksounds-produced album, A Southwest Side Story, landed on Houston Chronicle’s “12 of the Year’s Best Houston Albums.” Working with local producers Chris Rockaway (UGK, Tech N9ne, Trae Tha Truth) and Trakksounds (Bun B, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky, Wiz Khalifa, Jhene Aiko), T2 possesses a landmine of momentum to redefine Houston rap. Earlier this month T2 was highlighted by Houston Press when he shared the stage with H-Town legend, Paul Wall. With all of Houston’s support behind him, T2 is continuing to push forward Houston’s rap legacy.
