Tupac Biopic Release Postponed

The highly anticipated Tupac Shakur biopic has reportedly been postponed, and is expected to hit theaters in November due to licensing disagreements between BMG and rapper Daz Dillinger.

According to TMZ, the argument is about who has rights to ‘Ambitionz as a Ridah,’ from Tupac’s fourth studio album – the track title of which the film is named after.

Dillinger, one half of Tha Dogg Pound, was one of the producers on the track, and he claims he has rights to it. Meanwhile, executives at the BMG publishing company claim that they own all rights.

Dillinger sued BMG for $75,000 in royalties last April.

Earlier today, Dillinger aired on Instagram that, “nothing derailed” the biopic or was preventing its release.

The All Eyez On Me film, in production since 2011, was directed by Benny Bloom and features Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac, and Jamal Woolard as The Notorious B.I.G.. Additional characters include Tupac’s late mother, activist Afeni Shakur and Puff Daddy.

The new release date will mean that the biopic will air during election month. Ironically, Tupac called Donald Trump out on his ethics of greed back in 1992. Could be coincidence, could be irony that Tupac’s film will release while Donald is running.
