Big K.R.I.T. Opens Up To Shanti Das For The “Pick Yourself Up and Silence The Shame” (Recap)

In support of “Pick Yourself Up” off the 2-song Double Down EP, released on December 7th, Big K.R.I.T. opens up about what he does in his spare time, his apology to his father, depression, self-care and how he picks himself up, during the “Pick Yourself Up and Silence The Shame” fireside chat with Shanti Das at the Gathering Spot in Atlanta, GA.  The event was hosted by Martell on Thursday, December 6th.

In front of an audience of 250 fans, which reached capacity in 2 hours upon its announcement 2 days prior, fans enjoyed signature drinks provided by Martell which were  named in support of Big K.R.I.T.’s surprise musical releases:  “Glorious,” “Look What I Got,” “Higher” and the event’s inspiration “Pick Yourself Up.”

Big K.R.I.T. was surprised by the unexpected attendance of his 9th grade english teacher, who Big K.Ri.T. immediately jumps off the podium to hug, was the first to pop up.

Big K.R.I.T. and Shanti Das went on to take questions by the rest of the audience who would straight out recite his lyrics to him, spoke   how his songs “got [them] through” and asked questions about inspiration behind songs such as “Soul Food” which was  inspired by the passing of his grandmother.  Watch a segment of the interview here:

Big K.R.I.T. Releases Trifecta Final EP for 2018

TRIFECTA features the focus track, “Energy” produced by Danja Handz and Rico Love, “Energy” cleverly uses a Jill Scott sample from her hit single, “He Loves Me.”  Trifecta boasts additional production on “4 Tha Three” by Charity Work, 5ive 9 and Mark Byrd and on “1 Oh Oh” by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love.

Big K.R.I.T. says I love writing over soulful music with 808s. The Jill Scott “He Loves Me” sample made it so easy to find a cadence and tone that fit. I literally walked into the studio and Danja had the instrumental to “Energy” banging thru the speakers. Rico Love had already had a concept that was perfect. When it came to writing to the track it was super organic.

HotNewHipHop said of the last two surprise releases,  “Krizzle is a monster. Big K.R.I.T. has just touched down with his second project of the year, and of the month. Earlier in November, K.R.I.T. dropped off Thrice Xa three-song EP that reintroduced him as the lyrical king of the south. Now, he’s blessed fans with a second surprise, Double Up.

And the surprises don’t stop there, BIG K.R.I.T.  gives great energy to his hometown Boys and Girls club by stopping by to talk to the children about striving for success and the power of a positive mindset while enjoying life.  In the end he surprised the club with  a $5,000.00 check for the betterment of the children’s experience when visiting the club.

Big K.R.I.T. addresses working with the boys and girls club, “Being able to go home and give back to my community was amazing. Having the opportunity to talk with the children and share positive energy was inspirational. The children are the future and I have a responsibility to give back however I can. There’s a lot more community events we plan on doing this is just the beginning.”

Big K.R.I.T. Releases New Music with Double Down

In celebration of DOUBLE DOWN, Big K.R.I.T. partners with Shanti Das and her Silence The Shame organization to present a fireside chat titled, “Pick Yourself Up and Silence The Shame” on December 6th at 7PM at the Gathering Spot (384 Northyards Blvd NW, Atlanta, GA 30313).  The event is sponsored by Martell and will feature a live art activation by a surprise visual artist.

On the EP, the energetic “Pick Yourself Up,” with its Too Short and Isley Brother’s samples, is all about a good time while “Learned From Texas” allows Big K.R.I.T. to pay homage to the region and rappers that have influenced him most.

During the “Pick Yourself Up and Silence The Shame” event, a select number of fans will win the opportunity to meet Big K.R.I.T. and Shanti Das after the chat by submitting a short visual essay on the ultimate way they pick themselves up: i.e.: being with family and friends, throwing the ultimate party, a chocolate shake.  Give details and submit.  All submissions should include the hashtags: #SilenceTheShame and #PickYourselfUp while tagging @bigkrit.

“By being so transparent about my life struggles in my music, I hope that people who are going through similar challenges will find strength through my stories,” states Big K.R.I.T.
